There’s an old Chinese saying, “People live like birds in the woods: When the time comes each must take flight.” We came across this little guy, (whom we affectionately named Festus) that seems to have just recently been pushed from the nest, taken flight, and failed miserably. His eagle-eyed mother still kept a close watch on him as she sat perched on a nearby car antenna. She stops by every spring so we can play midwife because she knows CNS delivers!
We’re not sure what type of worm slithered down his throat but something about his grumpy facial expression told us to back off. So we decided to kill two birds with one stone (not literally of course) and help him off the hot pavement while taking a few photos. Finally, with a little motivation (and Nathan, the cellular paparazzi, right on his tail feathers) Festus took his first successful solo flight into the wild blue yonder, warbling the theme to Top Gun. The Great Henry Van Dyke said something about birds once, “Use the talents you possess, for the woods would be a very silent place if no birds sang except for the best.” Here at CNS, we come across a wide array of talent. Whether it’s finding your voice like this little screaming hatchling or learning to dive bomb our cars with uncanny precision (his mother has that perfected to a little dab’ll do ya’… several times a day), let us all take a lesson from our fine feathered friend–if at first you don’t succeed… you’re obviously doing it wrong.
We wish the bestus to Festus as we remind him and his friends; the boss drives the newly washed Mercedes.
